All About Craft Company No.6
Craft Company No. 6 is a craft gallery of handmade American and Canadian fine craft is located in a historic Victorian firehouse Engine Company No. 6, on ARTWalk in Rochester's Neighborhood of the Arts.
For more than 40 years Craft Company No. 6 has specialized in American handmade jewelry, woodcraft, blown glass, pottery, fiber and metal arts. Our gallery is a favorite for artistic jewelry, unique handmade gifts and home furnishings.
Our Main Craft Gallery
When you first enter our main craft gallery, you’ll find yourself surrounded by creativity. This place is where fire engines pulled by a team of horses were once housed. Innovative handmade jewelry will be the first crafts to catch your eye.
Handcrafted Home Furnishings
Follow the curving brick path through creative displays of handcrafted home furnishings to the rear of this room, turn right and take a detour into our outdoor courtyard. In our large courtyard you will find birdhouses and feeders, wind chimes, sculpture, garden stakes and much more to add a creative touch to your own garden retreat.
The Upstairs Gallery
The upstairs front room, which is now our fine jewelry and collector craft gallery, was once the firemen's living room. Be sure you look up to the cupola to see the old photos of what our firehouse looked like in the early 1900's. In the photo over the front windows you will see “Chubby” (click to learn more about Chubby) Rochester’s most famous fire horse pictured in our driveway with a fireman of the era. In front of Craft Company No. 6, Chubby and his fireman are now immortalized in a life-size sculpture by local artist Vincent Massaro.
Fine Jewelry Collection
Our fine jewelry collection includes handmade jewelry of the best quality from leading American jewelry designers working in gold, platinum and fine silver. Earrings, bracelets, necklaces, rings and wedding bands shine with creativity. We have received a great deal of praise about what a pleasant experience it is to purchase fine jewelry from our friendly, knowledgeable staff.
Full Suite of Pottery
In our upstairs rear room, you will find pottery creatively displayed in the lockers where firemen once hung their uniforms. You’ll also find some wooden cutting boards and our popular gourmet foods. An old wood and coal burning stove is another display prop that attracts much attention. Chip 'n dip servers are our most popular pottery item and we have a large selection from a variety of artists.
Also in the pottery room you will find gourmet savories to sample. Be sure to take home a jar of Screamin' Mimi’s award winning salsa, a Craft Company favorite.
Urban Art Trail
That concludes the tour of our craft gallery. On your way out be sure to take a few minutes to enjoy the gardens in front of Craft Company No. 6 and take note of the spectacular wide sidewalks.
